Getting Off the Struggle Bus: Are You Unconsciously Pushing Away Your Success?

Are you on the Struggle Bus? Do you wonder sometimes if you unconsciously push away your success? Do you wonder if and when you’ll ever get the opportunity to share your music with the world? Or just feel more successful in life overall?

While some things we don’t have control over, there are some right under our nose that we overlook – keys to the kingdom so to speak.  Sometimes it’s the very words we speak that we create our reality with.

Words have power. The words I am referring to are the ones you speak out loud and the ones you mutter to yourself. Truth is words can create success or push it away and you might never even realize it’s all within your power. And if you use words wisely, they can change your life.

It’s neuro-science – words and thoughts are energy, carry a life force and they have an impact on your inner and outer world – they are carving your life minute by minute and reflect your world right back to you.

Here’s how…

What you say and think sets your brain to work setting you on or off course. And the tricky thing is that the subconscious brain does not distinguish a good thought from  bad – it totally accepts whatever you tell it. So you can imagine if you are feeding your brain with fearful or negative thoughts (try to count how many times they occur on a daily basis – you’ll be amazed)… what message are you sending to yourself? Thoughts are like seeds planted in the fertile ground of your brain that with daily watering, grow into sturdy plants that can withstand even the power of your will.

To take back your power and get control, you can tap in – tune in – to what’s going on internally. It’s about listening to feelings and emotions – and following hunches. A great way to do that is to meditate. Guided or active meditation is a great way to start,  especially when you are not used to being still and going within. And – you can change your mindset if you set your intention and focus on it daily.

I met a woman this weekend, who has an 8 figure business and an abundant successful life, who said that the single reason for her success was 100% mindset.  What you tell yourself in your head will  make it or break it.

I see so many artists who are on the “struggle bus” wondering how and when their break is going to come, yet it is their mindset that holds them back – not opportunity. This is such an important element of success – matter of fact success cannot be obtained without it – that I am putting together a new program launching this Fall to teach artists not only how to set up their business and systems for success, but how to plan for it in their vision and transition their mindset to draw their success to them.

One of my students who came to me struggling on that bus; within a year we not only got her off that bus, but she now has a record deal and is well on her way to fulfilling her dream.

Try this: Every day for one week, write down every time you have a negative thought. Another option is to wear one of your favorite rubber bracelets and every time you catch a negative thought – switch your bracelet to the other arm. Count how many times you switch. What if you could change this one thing? You could completely transform your life and career!

Then go to our Facebook Page, post your progress and see what others are saying. Stay open to the blessings that are waiting for you.

P.S. For a quick read check out don Miguel Ruiz’s book The Four Agreements (NY Times bestseller). The #1 agreement is: Be Impeccable with Your Word, Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of the word in the direction of truth and love.

P.P.S.  If you’re ready to stop the excuses, step up, stand in your own power as an artist and get the coaching you need to transform your music career – send me an Application.  I have 3 (only) very special spots available for new students this Fall and I’m looking for you if you are really ready to go big.

  • This is very funny! I just picked up this email following a conversation about how to deal with our actual VW bus breaking down majorly this week. I’d had a “feeling” it was going to happen. And so…it did. We were just wondering what lessons should be learned from this episode….

    “Success is 100% mindset”.

  • Hey Cari! Great post and some very powerful takeaways. It is so true that our thoughts are the fabric that create the reality of our lives. It can’t be stressed enough how much the “negative thoughts” and voices that pop in our heads must be proactively met and overwritten with what we really want to say and believe.

That’s one of the things I teach with my Unleash Your Artist course (http://unleashyourartist.com)

I think it’s fascinating to look at brain scans and chemical changes to the brain that take place through changing our thoughts, diets, and lifestyle to support happiness, gratitude, and richness in life.

    Thanks for sharing this!

  • Hi Cari –

Loved your article today! It is so true. THOUGHTS CREATE THINGS. If we can shift our thoughts to what we want to create for ourselves instead of what we don’t want in our lives it will be such a transformation. I’m one of those people who catches myself thinking or saying something negative from time to time. I try to shift it to a positive affirmation. Dr. Wayne Dyer has this powerful meditation called, “Meditations for Manifesting,” which really changed my life. It is a 20 minute morning meditation using the sound of “Ah” while focusing on what you want to manifest in your life, picturing it and feeling it as if it were really happening now.

Thanks for all your great articles! I look forward to them every week! Also thanks for creating the Singer’s Gift vocal warm-ups! Love the exercises and tips.

    Yes!

Love this article! Can I second the urge for people to meditate? It is key to healthy mindset. Love the idea to use the wristband!

Loving you, sistah! (hmmm, lotsa love in this post ;>)

  • [...] If you can see the beauty and the power in any given situation, you can and you will rise above, my friend. Nothing will stop you. (Excellence in action = power; not self-serving, shallow power but TRUE POWER, the Giving Kind. The kind that changes social norms and inspires a woman to refuse to sit at the back of the bus kinda POWER = EXCELLENCE. If there ever was an example of Beauty + Excellence in action, it’s Rosa Parks. Awesome silly visual bonus: Rosa Parks was the Honey Badger on the Struggle Bus!) [...]
