What Making Money Making Music Really Means

It’s a new era in the entertainment biz. Everyone is trying to figure out how to put the pieces of their puzzle together, enough to make a living and even become successful – the game plan has changed.  One of the reasons why I am so passionate about helping artists become successful is that there are  many who truly deserve it that are too right brain to make it happen. That’s where I come in.  I’m a little ambidextrous (hopefully so are you!)

The artist side of me is all-the-way right brain dominant and the entrepreneur is right brain with enough left to implement what I create. I think that’s why I’m so good at showing artists their next best steps because I am one. There’s a lot of good advice out there for artists – but I find it either left brain business-minded dominant or another right brain artist trying to lead other artists. Like a friend said recently “it’s like the blind leading the blind.”

Often when artists come to me they can see the end goal but not all the steps in between – the ones that are the actual staircase that leads them to their goals.  I help them build the staircase.  The staircase is the next best steps and how to set oneself up to make money.

It’s funny, but when I talk to my Artist Success Circle groups about becoming a “famous” or “successful” artist they light up. But when I talk about making “money” as an artist, their eyes glaze over. Why is that? Well, because even though artists want to be successful, what they really want, what’s at the core, is to be recognized for their artistic talents. That’s what really matters.

So when we talk about what Making Money Making Music Really Means – what it really means is to be successful even if that means artistically to you. Money is not really a dirty word for artists.

Once you get that – talking numbers becomes easy – and even fun. The money is just a symbol of your success.
